Yes, but that is not evidence of Joffrey commanding the bastards to be killed. Unless we see/hear otherwise, we must assume that events on the show happen just as in the books. Unlike Lost, we actually have source material to work with.

Didn't Cersei have some of his bastards killed before? Or am I remembering that wrong?
Either way, I can't wait for Harrenhal.

So far, there have been significant (at least compared to last season) alterations. And after last night we do have confirmation of who ordered the 'cleansing of the bastards'.
I wonder about the 'Yara/Asha' thing even though it's a small change, but I don't recall even hearing the Wilding girl Osha's name at all last season. Small thing, I just wonder because it was so faithful to the first book with only a few, very slight changes. Oh well.
I think that they're still establishing the major players of this season, because it still feels like they're meandering around through the plot trying to introduce us to everyone that we're going to see this season.

Okay, so now they did go and change it from Cersei to Joffrey regarding the killing of Robert's bastards. I actually do not like that change because it makes Cersei less calculating and in control and makes Joffrey appear much smarter than he really is.
I think changing Asha's name is pretty silly. It's not like Osha is ever significant enough again to cause any confusion. But it's not a plot change or a change of character personality.
The biggest change last night came with Stannis and Melisandre getting it on. There was never any direct evidence in the books that they had anything more than a professional relationship. There were rumors, of course, among the people, because they spent so much time together. I took it as a guru/disciple kind of a thing.
My favorite scenes were Arya's.

Arya has a lot of good character stuff coming in her future too.
I thought the Stannis bit was somewhat heavy-handed since in the books, his 'involvement' with Melisandre was only implied (him looking drawn and worn out, like she was sucking life from him), but without internal dialog and narrative to support events, I suppose you need some way to show what's going on 'behind closed doors'.
I want to see what happens with Melisandre, Davos and the shadow. That could be so cool/gross and completely sinister. Can't wait.

i think they just wanted to have Melisandre naked, and I'm okay with that.

I have no problem with that, but adding a sexual relationship between the two just for the sake of tv titillation doesn't justify it, imo(And it's not as if that particular episode didn't already have enough of that going on. lol). I think, like buddha, there must be something more, like she is some kind of succubus who draws her power from someone like Stannis who gives so much of himself to her god and her cause.

I didn't want to give any spoilers regarding the shadows that come into play later, but the book gave obtuse indications that they were the result of Stannis getting some 'Red Lady action'.
There was plenty of nekkid in the episode, which I don't mind either but the scene with Littlefinger and the redhead seemed superfluous to me, and I didn't recall it from the books so I wasn't sure of the point of it, other than to show (yet again) how ruthless Lord Baelish is when need be.
And they didn't really play up Theon hitting on his sister much either, which made him angry (as well as looking completely stupid) in the books. At least they kept the part about the iron price and his father's scorn at his son being 'dressed like a *****'.

I think it was just a scene to give Littlefinger more screen time. Ros was a character invented for the tv series; she didn't exist in the books per se outside of a of mention of a red-headed *****. So she made the move from Winterfell to King's Landing and now she's basically head ***** at the brothel. Good for her, but I do't really care much for her character.
Maybe they will play up Theon hitting on Asha/Yara more in the next episode.

Another great episode. Things are moving along nicely. Harrenhal was great, can't wait to see more of it in next weeks episode.
Was nice to see Danaerys again, after her being absent from last weeks episode. Hopefully something truly sinister is on the horizon for King Joffrey.
Guess we got to witness the birth of the Smoke Monster last night, before he came to settle in the glow-hole / the MiB.
