Just curious, instead of resurrecting a year old thread that had no discussion in it, why not just start a new one???

I'm guessing it's because it doesn't have the stigmata of he/she who shall not be named, so people might look or something.
Since it's here anyway, I'm pretty excited to see if they keep up the awesomeness of last season. It was a wonderfully faithful adaptation on the first book and since they had 10 hours to tell the story, very little was omitted or changed.
The second book (and season) has a significant amount of new characters that will come into play and remain a large part of the story as the series continues. There will be some intriguing events happening beyond the wall, the war for the Iron Throne will escalate and cause new alliances to form and old ones to break and there will be hijinks aplenty.
Hopefully that's not too spoiler-y.

And here's a featurette about one of the new characters, Stannis Baratheon - Robert's older brother:

I felt like the first episode of the new season was all over the place, but I think that maybe they were trying to set the stage for the major players and interactions for the season. If nothing else, what was shown illustrates vividly how messed up everything is in Westeros as well as the hardships Dani and her people are experiencing.
Intentionally vague so as not to be spoiler-y, but the thing at the end of the episode with the bastards was pretty random, and unless you've read the books and my guess is that it will confuse a lot of people and leave them wondering what happened and what it was about.

I think you are right, Buddha, in that they intentionally had things all over the place to show just what bad shape Westeros is in right now with no clear leader. Everyone smells blood and they are all circling.
I am curious as to how much from the 3rd book is going toshow up this season considering they've said they were going to do it.
