Car Bomb in Time Square A T-shirt vendor who noticed smoke coming out of a dark green sport utility vehicle alerted police to what turned out to be a potential bomb placed in the city's iconic Times Square -- teeming with tourists and theater-goers on a balmy spring evening. "We avoided what could have been a very deadly event," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg early Sunday morning. "It certainly could have exploded and had a pretty big fire and a decent amount of explosive impact." www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/05/02/times.square.closure/index.html?hpt=T1

My thoughts on the NY car bomb, taken from my Facebook page (including Moy's comment):
Look, I know the idea of a bomb in Times Square is scary, but a couple propane tanks and a few gallons of gasoline makes for a very crap bomb. It would look all scary looking when it exploded, but damage would be about as minimal as you could get with a homemade bomb. Which means this was either a rush job or it was ...done by someone with little or no connections that would yield actual explosive-making materials.
Just think about that over the next few days while this plays out in the news like it's another 9/11.
Moy: It's so homegrown.
Totally. It's either somebody pissed about taxes or somebody pissed about a Black Man In Charge, but it *isn't* well thought-out or, well, technically impressive.
The fact that they found a "bunch of fireworks and M80 firecrackers" inside the vehicle, along with (again) all the gasoline and propane really makes this sound like it was intended to be a spectacle and nothing more. A big fireball, loud bangs and noises, but minimal damage. Now that is just strange and a half.

Indian man 'survives without food or water for decades'A team of doctors in western India is carrying out a study on a hermit who claims to have survived without food and water for 70 years. The holy man claims that he derives energy through meditation. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8652837.stm(And in the video, they mention that the Indian military wants to know how they can put this ability to use. "Think of how much money we could save not buying food for our troops!")

The doctor guy in the video says he's been there under observation for however long and he hasn't had any food or liquid, nor did he pee or poop.
I'm inclined to agree with you on the shenanigans call, though.
