When I was into Thor back in the 80s and early 90s he did not have anything covering his arms and the leg coverings were basically spandex. So I am not sure what the article meant by "mainstream" Thor. I hate the Ultimate stuff, at least for costumes.

I think they were also talking about the Mjolnir design as well, as far as the source material went for the look, since Ultimate Thor has the hammer-axe combo thing. But regular Thor's newer costume appears to be where the movie look came from. I like that it's more akin to actual armor, as opposed to the chest plates things that his old costume had. Or rather, just the chest plates on the sleeveless tunic, that is. Didn't seem to offer much in the way of protection if they were armor.

Thing is, Thor really didn't need any armor... cause he's a god. lol.

Yeah, I thought about that too. But wasn't he also just some mildly crippled guy with a cane that would turn into Thor? It wasn't one of the comics I read regularly so I'm a bit fuzzy on the Marvel version of the character.

Yeah, Odin gave him the mortal identity(Donald Blake) to teach him humility, but as Thor he was pretty darn powerful. Thor did wear armor briefly in the 80s after Hela cursed him and made his bones brittle and also was unable to heal, but still immortal. He got pounded into liquid fighting the midgard serpent. But he got better.

The 80's were a crazy time, lots of people made questionable decisions. Thor spent the 90's recovering from cocaine addiction and a drinking problem. He really let himself go.

back when we used to sacrifice reindeer to thor he wore the gory pelt of the fiend hound grhajkyll, having slain the demon in glorious battle.
